For the first time ever, Barcelona will have the chance to experience the “so talked- about” new era of movies made in Brazil. “Cinema Brasil” is the name of the festival that will take place from December 15 through the 21st, led by the Brazilian Film Festival, a well-known international event that has been promoting Brazilian films in Miami for 10 years and four years in New York.
Joining the Brazilian company Inffinito – organizers of the Film festivals mentioned above – are the production companies Producciones Animadas and Tarima Producciones, and together they intend to offer to the public of Cinema Brasil a broad view of Brazil’s ‘new cinema’.
Nine films will be screened for the first time in Spain, and the audience will be able to see for themselves the rebirth of the Brazilian Cinema that has been giving us nice surprises in the past few years.
“Amarelo Manga” (Mango Yellow), a great representation of the manguebeat culture, “Zuzu Angel” (Zuzu Angel), the story of the acclaimed fashion designer killed by the military dictatorship, “Crime Delicado” (Delicate Crime), directed by Beto Brant who was awarded at Sundance, “O Veneno da Madrugada” (In Evil Hour), based on a novel by Garcia Márquez, who also collaborated with the character’s script, are some of the titles available bringing quality and innovation to the big screens.
Music also plays an amazing role in the Brazilian movies today, as it has always been. The work of Milton Nascimento in “Sonhos e Desejos” (Dancing in Utopia); Chico Buarque in “A Máquina” (The Machine) and “O Veneno da Madrugada” (In Evil Hour), among DJ Dolores and Robertinho do Recife, also in “A Máquina”, are just some of the highlights.
The movie screenings will be held at Cine Verdi Parqui, in Gracia, Barcelona. During one week, three movies will be shown daily, in different schedules. Tickets are five euros and can be purchased at the venue.
The 1st Brazilian Film Festival of Barcelona is already included in the official cultural calendar of the city. The event is supported by …
